I got the chance to check out I’m Still Here at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Here’s my review that appeared on Dose.ca’s TIFF Blog.

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix

Kinda Like: Watching a good friend get wasted and make a fool of himself.

The Deal: Casey Affleck directs his good friend and brother-in-law, Joaquin Phoenix, as he retires from acting and goes on to pursue a rap career. Phoenix’s descent into absurdity has been well documented for the past two years, we’ve seen him grow a beard, appear awkward on Letterman and then perform and fall off the stage at a concert. Just a hoax, right?

Although the film doesn’t necessarily answer that question – after viewing Phoenix’s descent into a really sad and pathetic place, we really hope it is all just a hoax. Why else would anyone want the world to see them snort cocaine off a call girl’s breasts, get defecated on or embarrass themselves in front of Diddy?

Rating: 2/5
