I got the chance to check out Griff the Invisible at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Here’s my review that appeared on Dose.ca’s TIFF Blog.
***
Cast: Ryan Kwanten, Maeve Dermody, Patrick Brammall, Toby Schmitz
Kinda Like: Jason Stackhouse goes geek and keeps his shirt on. But he’s still a little crazy.
The Deal: True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten stars as a Griff, a quiet loner who works a desk job during the day and becomes a superhero at night. A superhero just like the comics – complete with a costume, gadgets, a high-tech lair and an archnemesis (the office bully Tony).
The socially awkward Griff meets fellow oddball Melody when his brother brings her over during a date. The two realize they have more in common than anyone else and she wants to help him defend the helpless and teaches him how to become “invisible.”
Kwanten’s performance as the shy but loveable Griff proves that he has much more depth and range than what we are used to seeing with his True Blood role.
